France was developing an oveseas colonial empire. Belgium was mostly ruled by the Hapsbugs. The French and English began colonizing Canada. The French began to occupy Haiti.

What is now Germany was occupied by the Thirty Years War. Afterwards, Prussia became increasingly important. The Russian Tsardom strengthened. The Crimean Khanate and Lithuania dominated Ukraine. What is now the Czech Republic was under the rule of the Hapsburg monarchy. Poland was part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Hungary was divided between a portion ruled by the Habsburgs and one ruled by the Ottoman Empire.
