Sociology

Sociology as referred to on this site includes peoples of the world, communities, and social mechanics.

In the traditional organization of the social sciences, sociology deals more with modern industrialized societies and with some aspects of human social organization in general, while anthropology deals more with traditional societies, and some of the fundamentals applicable to all societies, on the theory that simpler societies are easier to understand.

On this site, modern and traditional societies and their respective institutions and cultures are considered together.

Basic subjects which are common to peoples and societies in general are considered under the heading of anthropology. These include particular groups, human geography, relationships with nature, physical anthropology, population, and the fundamentals of social organization.

   

Peoples of the world

Peoples of the world are divided among the various nations of the world. For convenience in searching, these are listed in alphabetical order. For examination of related groups of nations, these are divided into four major groups. Western Civilization includes Anglic or English-speaking peoples, Latin peoples, Germanic peoples, Northeast European peoples, Balkan peoples, and Scandinavian peoples. Asiatic peoples include Middle Eastern peoples, South Asian peoples, Central Asian peoples, Oriental peoples, and Southeast Asian and Oceanic peoples. African peoples include East African peoples, West African peoples, Central African peoples, and Southern African peoples. American Indian peoples include Middle American Indian peoples, South American Indian peoples, and North American Indian peoples.

Communities

This includes an alphabetical listing of the largest cities of the world.

Social Mechanics

Much of the content of what is considered the social sciences belongs to this category. Social change including particular changes and movements, social change factors, and social change processes can be examined. Social types including industrial society, agrarian society, horticultural society, and hunting and gathering society can be examined. Social structure including community and regional structure, class structure, institutional structure, cultural structure, and anthropologic structure can be examined.

History

History including prehistory can be used to examine peoples of the world, communities, and social mechanics. Antiquity including the early 3rd millennium BC, late 3rd millennium BC, early 2nd millennium BC, late 2nd millennium BC, and early 1st millennium BC can be connected.
