Early 21st Century

The early 21st century is arbitrarily divided into five year periods. These include the early 2000s, late 2000s, early 2010s, and late 2010s.

The US became involved in war in Afghanistan and Iraq under Presidents George H. Bush, Barak Obama, and Donald Trump. In Canada, Jean Chrétien, Stephen Harper, and Justin Trudeau served as Prime Ministers. Queen Elizabeth II continued to reign in the United Kingdom. Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron, and Theresa May served as Prime Ministers. Australia has an incomplette survey of events. New Zealand also has an incomplete survey of events.

Silvio Berlusconi, Romano Prodi, Silvio Berlusconi, Mario Monti, and Matteo Renzi were Prime Ministers of Italy.

Jaques Chirac, Nikolas Sarkozy, Francois Hollande, and Emmanuel Macron presided over France. Parts of Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, and Haiti are mentioned but not yet detailed.


Early 2000s

This includes events of 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005. It is especially noted for the destruction of the World Trade Center and the following War on Terror and war in Iraq.

Late 2000s

This includes events of 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. A "new Atheism" movement emerged. Barak Obama succeeded George W. Bush as US President. A global financial crisis was followed by an economic recession.

Early 2010s

This includes events of 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. The continuing global recession, a European debt crisis, and a series of revolts known as the "Arab Spring" were prominent events.

Late 2010s

This includes events of 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Other history

Other periods of history including prehistory, antiquity, classical and medieval history; other modern history including the 16th century, 17th century, 18th century, 19th century, and 20th century; and the future can be used to examine the early 2000s, late 2000s, early 2010s, and late 2010s.


Sociology including peoples of the world such as Western Civilization and Asiatic peoples; communities; and social mechanics can be used to examine the early 2000s, late 2000s, early 2010s, and late 2010s. Western Civilization appeared to be declining, while Asiatic peoples were becoming increasingly significant and important.
