History

Prehistory

Early prehistory

Early prehistory including Early Pleistocene prehistory, early mid Pleistocene prehistory, mid Pleistocene prehistory, and late mid Pleistocene prehistory can be connected. China is thought to have been uninhabited during Pliocene prehistory.

Early Pleistocene prehistory can be connected. A few sites possibly dating to this period have been identified. (Bose Basin, possibly 2.0 million years BP, He County, possibly 1.9 million years BP, Xihoudi, possibly 1.8 million years BP), Early mid Pleistocene prehistory can be connected. Various stone tools dating to about 1.36 million years ago and hominid remains dating to about 1.23 million years ago and classified as Homo erectus have been found in China. Mid Pleistocene prehistory can be connected. Peking Man (discovered in 1923-27) and dated to about 750,000 years before present belongs to this period. Late mid Pleistocene prehistory (from about 126,000 years BP) can be connected. Fossilized teeth dating to about 125,000 to 80,000 years BP were found in Fuyan cave.

Middle prehistory
